Description

Catholic Charities is a Community Benefit Organization serving the needs of those in crisis throughout the community regardless of race, age or religious beliefs. Families experiencing difficult economic times are invited to seek assistance from Catholic Charities year-round in the form of food, clothing, education, job training, senior services and financial management. Annually, Catholic Charities provides services to over 140,000 client’s diocesan wide with sites in Fresno, Merced and Bakersfield.

Ways to Serve

Thrift Store Volunteer:

Thrift Store Volunteers assist with every area of a retail environment including customer service, sorting incoming donations, organizing retail displays, handling of transactions and more.

The Catholic Charities Thrift Store serves a dual purpose. Individuals and families that are in crisis and in need of clothing can receive vouchers redeemable for items in the store. It’s also open to the public Monday – Friday. All proceeds from the Thrift Store go directly to the Social Service Programs of Catholic Charities. Donations of gently used clothing, household goods, and furniture are greatly appreciated.

Food Pantry/Warehouse Volunteer:

Volunteers in our food pantry/warehouse are needed to help sort, package and distribute food to those in need.

Families who are experiencing difficult economic times can come to Catholic Charities to ease the burden of feeding their families. We at Catholic Charities embrace our clients by lending a helping hand when times are tough. Our mission is to advocate for, serve, and empower those in need. We strive to give nutritional food that will sustain families until they can get back on their feet.

Donations from the community are greatly appreciated and needed. Items needed on a daily basis are canned goods, rice, beans, pasta, tomato sauce, tuna, peanut butter, cereal, and soup. If you or your organization are interested in holding a food drive or sponsoring our pantry for a day, please contact Ashlee Wolf (559) 237-0851 Ext. 1105 or email awolf@ccdof.org.

Intake Volunteer:

Volunteers in our Intake Department handle all things administration including reception, data entry, interviewing clients to assess their needs and processing required documents in order to confirm eligibility to receive services.

To determine eligibility for services, Catholic Charities references the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), which is a measure of income issued every year by the Department of Health and Human Services, and ask that our clients provide us with proof of identification, address and income. All information is input into a computer program before clients are directed to either our Food Pantry/Warehouse or Thrift Store to receive the services they are in need of.

Participant Notes: All participants must fill out a volunteer application and are subject to a background check.

Please contact Ashlee Wolf using the contact information above if you have questions or would like more information about serving.
