Here at WestCare, we can always use help from adults who would like to accompany the HERO or HOME team during outreach to the homeless. HOME team goes out to the rural communities 2-4 times a month and HERO goes out within the City of Fresno daily. Volunteers have assembled a team and driver and helped many times. They have brought out blankets or water, snacks or clothing to give out as well. Sometimes just being there to speak to someone is more than enough. Some of the individuals and youth we encounter haven’t had anyone speak to them for some time.
If we have volunteers under 18 years of age, we just need one adult to contact me and we can let them know about opportunities like cleanup, painting, gardening, sorting donations, and even playing with the children in the learning center while their parents are in groups at our residential treatment site. Does anyone cut hair or do nails? We have many residents who haven’t received that kind of treatment in sometime. Does anyone make something unique like bath bombs, cold press soaps, candles? Our women Veterans and women in treatment would love to learn how to do these types of things. Just some things to think about.
Use the phone/emails above or feel free to call our offices and ask for Michael: (559) 251-4800 Ext. 20906.
